How long to read 1,000 words

Silent reading for non-fiction English sits near 200–250 words per minute for many adults. 1,000 words is about 4–5 minutes. Technical or legal text is slower.

The default we use

Wordnio’s reading time uses about 200 WPM so estimates stay conservative. 1,000 words ≈ 5 minutes. 2,000 words ≈ 10 minutes. Skimming is faster; studying with notes is slower.

When to show it on a page

Blogs and docs benefit from a minute label. Do not show it on a 40-word landing page. Paste the article (not the nav) into the Reading Time Calculator.
