Reddit title character limit
Reddit titles cap at 300 characters. Many subreddits also cap body length or require a short title plus a long body. Count before you hit post — failed submits lose the draft on some clients.
Title vs body
300 characters is the site-wide title max. Subreddit rules (for example “title must be a question”) are extra. Self-text can be long; if a community asks for a 200-character explainer in the first paragraph, count that paragraph alone.
Avoid the cut-off
Paste the title into the Character Counter. If you are near 300, move detail into the body. Markdown in the body does not count toward the title cap.
Steps
- Write the title without tags first.
- Count characters.
- Keep a buffer under 300, then add flair in the UI, not in the title string.
