See the phrase in the sentence, not just a count
A quality score that says “12% passive” does not tell you which line to fix. This checker highlights the be + participle span in the draft and lists each sentence underneath so you can rewrite in place.
Aim for fewer hits in emails, landing pages, and resumes. Leave lab reports and incident write-ups alone when the actor truly does not matter.
A reasonable budget
If more than about one sentence in ten is passive in a blog post, readers start to feel the fog. That is a heuristic, not Flesch’s formula. Pair this with the Flesch checker when sentences are also long.
